Virus, Worm, Trojan Horse Contraception

I'm pretty irritated right now as I've had to delete close to 40 spam comments on my other blog Women of a Certain Age. I have received repetitive comments in the form of Oriental characters. I tried Blogger Help which is seldom helpful. I finally decided to go back to comment moderation in order to avoid this stuff altogether. I wouldn't want anyone to double click on spammed comment and get a virus, a worm, a trojan horse or whatever.

One of my favorite bloggers, Reya, has this to say:

Blogger Reya Mellicker said...

"Butternut Squash of the blog Goddess at the Confluence (who knows Asian languages) tells me this spam is a Japanese porno ad. If you use certain words like "pink" for instance, the spam finds your blog.

After awhile they give up.

But - comment moderation is a good thing. Why not?"

I agree with Reya! Why should we let anyone get on our nerves...

I've had it too. I think it's harmless but wise to delete it. Frankly I've only ever had that one attack on about 8 older posts. It's definitely a 'keyword' that attracts it. More irritating than dangerous I think. Watch out for the Russian ones, they're brilliant hackers and can delete your content. Always, always, keep a html copy of your blog somewhere just in case.

Minka: you're right. Reya's right. And I have to remember to check daily to approve now.

Baino: No shit? Russians? Deleted content. Do you mean they can delete your posts or your blog or the comments? Why do people do these things? Are they THAT bored with their lives?

Brian: I did not stop to review the posts other than to enjoy seeing the photos again so I didn't look for the trigger word. Curious. Now I want to know.

Otin: you make it sound so delicious.

Betsy: yes, a big fat pain.

Very strange indeed! The last time that I made a comment on your blog, I checked off email and when the subsequent comments came into my email, comments from this one person/ virus were duplicated 7 or eight times. I deleted them, but just figured it was a glitch. Such a drag!
