Virus, Worm, Trojan Horse Contraception

I'm pretty irritated right now as I've had to delete close to 40 spam comments on my other blog Women of a Certain Age. I have received repetitive comments in the form of Oriental characters. I tried Blogger Help which is seldom helpful. I finally decided to go back to comment moderation in order to avoid this stuff altogether. I wouldn't want anyone to double click on spammed comment and get a virus, a worm, a trojan horse or whatever.

One of my favorite bloggers, Reya, has this to say:

Blogger Reya Mellicker said...

"Butternut Squash of the blog Goddess at the Confluence (who knows Asian languages) tells me this spam is a Japanese porno ad. If you use certain words like "pink" for instance, the spam finds your blog.

After awhile they give up.

But - comment moderation is a good thing. Why not?"

Tag I'm It

Jaime of Red Red Whine tagged me to list six unimportant things that make me happy. I am then to tag six new blogs with the same task.

Rules:
1) Mention the person who tags you.
2) List your six unimportant things that make you happy.
3) Tag six blogs by notifying them in a comment on their blog.
4) List the six on your blog.

Here goes:
1) "Ugly Betty" makes me happy.
2) Mexican food makes me happy.
3) My laptop makes me happy.
4) Robert Redford movies make me happy.
5) Signing new clients makes me happy.
6) Losing weight makes me happy.

This isn't as easy as it looks. I revised this list twice because I decided I was choosing things I could not or would not want to live without thus making them important.

So, onto the new list of six:

Bear Swamp Reflections
synch-ro-ni-zing & small
The Brick Street Bungalow
Life in the Second Half
Baino's Banter
WaystationOne

Onward and upward!

Mysterious Comments from "ed"

This morning I checked Gmail for new comments to my posts. I found four or five on various posts from someone with the profile name "ed". All comments were in hieroglyphics or html gobbledygook which, I hope is not a computer virus. I deleted all comments but felt the need to link to the name "ed" to read the profile. The creepy thing about that is, it says "Blogger since February 2009" and "1900 views". Nothing else. I'm obviously concerned.

Anything like this happen to you?

Theme Thursday

I have entered my first Theme Thursday and have no idea if I've done it correctly at all. It's a bit nebulous, not quite a writing exercise, or is it? I don't know. Somebody fill me in!

I received recognition from The Brick Street Bungalow for this blog in the form of a "Fabulous Blog Award". I really appreciate this and am paying it forward.

Here are my five picks:

A Writer's Personal Workshop
Mouse Medicine
Bertie's House
Life in the Second Half

The rules: You must pass it on to 5 other Fabulous Bloggers in a post. You may find their email addresses on their Profile page or, if not available, post as a "Comment" to their latest post. You must include the person that gave you the award, and link it back to them. You must list 5 of your Fabulous addictions in the post. You must copy and paste these rules in the post. To my way of thinking, this is not only a nice tribute, it widens the reading audience.

New Followers

I was incredibly psyched to visit my blogs today and see new followers on this and my other blog: Women of a Certain Age. Thank all of you for signing up. It gives me a sense of purpose and responsibility and makes me want to write more! This blog, Empty Nest Evolution, began as a writiing exercise. I thought if I did this I would learn more about structure, headlines, content, etc. I'm a frustrated wannabe writer who never pursued her passion when she was young. I was always too busy making a living. In fact, I am still working in my career industry but it is no longer my mission in life.

I realize how important it is to not give up your dreams. Blogging has introduced me to so many interesting people from all walks of life. I'm especially struck by the number of women my age (fifties) who are blogging. It's like we've all found our voice at once!

Am I addicted? You bet. Is it okay? It's not only okay, it's therapy! Everybody keep writing your hearts out. I do it for myself but I'd be less than honest if I didn't say your comments serve to fuel my fire. Thanks again.
