Lily Pad or Pac Man?

My husband took this shot late summer but just recently posted it so it is new to me.  I had to ask him what is the object captured?.  I initially viewed it as an abstract water color style shot of something unknown.  He said it was a lily pad in a little pond he was paddling.  I think it's startling!  It reminds me of something the fabulous Bauhaus artist, Paul Klee, might have painted.  

Or a Pac Man.

This is Neil Denari's HL23 luxury condominium design.  It was, according to the design firm's press release, completed June 1, 2011.  My husband and I were in Chelsea during our visit to NYC.  We wanted to see the High Line.  We were rewarded with this awesome piece of architecture and my husband took this shot.

My answer to the blog post title question:  I would live there in a New York minute.

This photograph, by my husband Cole Scott, conveys a sense of longing for the end of a season.  I find it evocative, pleasurable and sad at the same time.  This happens to be Lake Chocoura, in N.H.  It's one of the most photographed in the state.

Wednesday Respite

"Into the Quiet Stream"

This is a photograph of the stream running through our yard.  It really is this green around here especially with all the rain.  The stream wends its way down from what we believe to be the mountains approximately a mile away.  It flows into the Saco River, a fairly substantial river running through our town.  People canoe and kayak and swim in the Saco.  It is mostly calm but flows at a good clip in the Spring with some level 2 rapids.

Another capture of the stream taken several years ago before we moved here.  This was late in the day.

Weekend Respite in B/W

My husband is a gifted photographer. His work is evocative, lonely, joyous, complicated, simple.  Because I am a literal person, I sometimes do not understand what he's trying to convey and find myself asking the meaning of a particular image.   I probably drive him crazy but I also help him clarify as do other photographers who critique and help him hone his craft.

A Rose Is A Rose

One of my earliest followers, Tanna, has created a watercolor of my husband's photograph of a rose.  I thought it would be fun to post side by side for comparison's sake.  She did an excellent job recreating the shape and movement of the petals.  Visit her blog to see the steps required.

Many of my artist friends create from photographs and the process intrigues me no end.  When I was learning to draw, I would copy pictures in National Geographic.  It is how I learned to draw faces and hands as they captured my interest.  

Theme Thursday: Spiral

One of my husband's early professional photos is this rose.  We were visiting close friends in northern Kentucky and they took us to the Cincinnati Flower Show.  I dragged my husband, kicking and screaming, as he thought it would be a bunch of girly displays.  Boy was he wrong!  He was transfixed by the beauty of the flowers, the landscape design, the powerful images some people created.  We had to drag him outta there.  He took some lovely shots and we've matted and framed them over the years to sell.  This is one of my favorites.  It looks  great with a clean white mat and a black frame about 2" wide.  

 

Too Soon for Peak Foliage

After what felt like an endless summer, the warmest temps on record, according to Science Daily, New England is very much into Fall.  In fact, northern New Hampshire is peaking now which, seems much too early.  

Our first trip to New Hampshire was Fall 1986.  We took a ten day trip from Virginia, leaving on 9/25 and returning 10/4.  I remember because it took me several years in a row to book this driving trip through the places we wanted to see and stay.  It must have been a record year for foliage as we were bedazzled by every place we visited.  So bedazzled and happy and relaxed, we conceived our first child while in the New Hampshire portion of the trip.  No wonder I remember it so well! 

I have so many photos and they are all about the leaves.  Locals call Fall visitors "leaf peepers".  They represent the best and worst of the tourists; the best because they spend alot of money, the worst because they always drive SLOOOOWWWW.
