Sweet Halloween Memories

TRICK OR TREAT
SMELL MY FEET
GIVE ME SOMETHING
GOOD TO EAT

circa 1991-1992

Yes, the refrain of my children back in the day.  We laughed like hell when the little "angels" recited that one.

Then, there was this favorite poem they learned in elementary school.  They can still recite it.

Five little pumpkins
Sitting on a gate
The first one says
"Oh my it's getting late!"
The second one says
"There's witches in the air."
The third one says
"I don't care."
The fourth one says
"Let's run and run and run."
The fifth one says
"It's Halloween fun."
Then WOOOO went the wind
And out went the light.
And the five little pumpkins
Rolled out of sight.

But now, Trick or Treating has nearly been PCed out of existence. The emphasis is now on parties, especially for adults.

Halloween is a holiday I definitely would return to children. (Hovering parents are optional.)

Bill!!!!! Glad to see you. Where have you been? Are you back in the blog world? if so, same one or...?
I agree it's much about adults. I don't think that's a bad thing as long as the children aren't neglected. I attended and enjoyed many fun Halloween costume parties back in the day. I have fond fond memories. Hope to see you around here again soon.

Brian: Are you not familiar with "5 Little Pumpkins"? The boys learned it in school. The photos are circa 1991-2. I'll put that on the page. God knows I'm no longer the mother of little dudes. You're lucky in that respect Brian.

I had never heard that poem before, I enjoyed it immensely. The "Monster Mash" was my former favorite... :-)

Awww! They were so cute! My kids loved dressing up on Halloween and still do, even though they're grown. Love the poem, too! Happy Halloween!

I wish we'd known that little ditty - it would have given us such fun. The other day my daughter was reminiscing about the costumes she and her brothers had way back when. She loved them. I really disliked having to make them, but it was always worth the effort. We were thinking that a photo book of just the old Hallowe'en costumes would be a fun thing to do.
Your boys were mischief incarnate, by the look of them. Very cute picture!

DJan: I had never heard this poem until the boys were in elementary school. I love it!!!

Marguerite: I think my husband loved the face painting part. It brought out his creative side.

Tanna: Now you have an awesome pair of GKids to dress up for Halloween. I bet your daughter & her husband LOVE taking Little Man door to door at his age. I did.

Nancy: They become more precious each year, that is for sure.
