Making It Happen

Low Tide Ogunquit Beach by Cole Scott

My husband did not get into the gallery this time around, see related post.   Unfortunately, they only consider new entrants once a year so he'll have to wait.  A jury process takes place but they don't reveal why they do not pick you so it's very frustrating.  This is new to us so we wonder if they are more amenable to people who have been trying to get in for a while, feel he's too far away geographically (although we fall within their 100 mile radius range) and that sort of thing.  His work is so good but taste differs.

The good news for him is a business leader in our community took me aside Wednesday to say she's heard about his photo art from "five or six people" and she wants to review it for an inn she's rehabbing.  She needs local art and likes the idea of photographic images of the area.  This means his name is getting around our area, which is awesome.

For more of his images, beyond Ogunquit, visit:  www.colescottphoto.com

Yes, I have looked at his work and cannot imagine why he wasn't picked. Could it be politics? They enter into so many aspects of life that we can't see...

Keep plugging. The problem is that there are so many really good photographers. I have a friend in South Carolina who is absolutely awesome but perhaps his style isnt to everyone's taste. Your husband's on the other hand are wonderful I'm sure he'll get his opportunity eventually. He reminds me of an Australian photographer, Ken Duncan who has had amazing success. He shoots largely panoramic shots but not exclusively.

Bummer! I was sure Cole would be in with his incredible photos. I always hated the subjective part of art and literature. Give me math with a process to prove and an unquestionalble answer... who ever knows what "they" see or don't see in art of any kind... go figure. I think they like for the artists to "pay their dues" of trying over and over. Cole, hang in there! Your work is great.

Nancy & Marguerite: thanks. he's going to have to take the good with the bad, as do all artists.

Deborah: I keep sending him emails from the blog posts when he has kind remarks such as yours and other admirers. It helps alot.

Djan: politics are a good guess. I've reviewed the bios on the artists, many of whom serve on the gallery's board of directors and are part of the jury process (which I think is a conflict). One guy was the FIRST photographer accepted into OAA (Ogunquit Arts Assoc) in 1990! So am not sure of their commitment to photography genre in general

Baino: thanks for the info. I'll look at his work. It is very tough, I know. I just think Scott's work is terrific. So much better in person too.

Tanna: Thanks! You are always a cheerleader and I love you for it.

Chrissy: Welcome and thank you for visiting and commenting. Ogunquit is south of Portland, Me. It's a gorgeous area. It's also south of Kennebunkport where Bush One lives (claim to fame).

Cole is such a talented photographer, I'm sure he will be picked the next go-round. The picture you posted is so lovely...the colors perfect. I hope this job comes his way. He definitely deserves it.

Who knows what judges will pick. It's always such a mystery why some people get in a show and some don't. Your husband's photography is fantastic. Tell him not to be discouraged.

Your husband's work is soooo gorgeous, I don't understand it. It's good that you are considering other reasons.
