My Guilty Pleasure...

...is "Dancing With the Stars".  Oh yeah.  I have to watch it even when it's pretty dull, like this season.  But, the one person who is never dull is Derek Hough.  His sister, Julianne, originally captivated me with her style and ability and her YOUTH!  I think she was only 18 when the show debuted.  But she was so accomplished and appeared, to my untrained eyes, as good as the more mature dancers.   Derek, came on board a few seasons into the show.  He is every bit as accomplished and talented as his sister, perhaps more so.

Watching him tonight, I am struck by just how incredible he is.  The guy is 21 years old.  21.  He has the athletic ability of Gene Kelly. He has the grace of Fred Astaire.  I do not say these things lightly as I have worshipped both dancers all my life.  I love dance movies from "Top Hat" to "The Red Shoes" to "Chicago", a recent fave.   This young man is also a wonderful choreographer; probably the best on the show.  Again, he is younger than his dancing peers but his talent is mature as you will see in the dance from Monday night when he and his partner scored perfect 10s.

What a fantastic duo! They must have danced together from an early age. Incredible!

OMG, CG! He is my guilty pleasure, too! He is an incredible artist... like taking the 50's music with the paso doble (sp?)!! I love to watch Max, too... but, he's no magician like Derek!

Wow. Just wow. Really enjoyed this and am sending it on to my daughter, who LOVES this stuff. I wouldn't be the least bit of ashamed of your guilty pleasure, if I were you.

He is one gorgeous hunk of young man, that's for sure! And super talented. He's awesome and I'm sorry I missed it. How do his partners keep from falling in love with him?!!

Really, you managed to sit through Kate Gosselin's excruciatingly painful dance moves? She was even worse than Buzz Aldrin...at least he had age as an excuse. :-}

Okay folks, I didn't mean Derek is my guilty pleasure (he's too young), I mean the show is.

He is talented and smart and just such a wonderful dancer and choreographer. I see him following in the Fosse footsteps: Broadway shows, movies, etc.

Max is a hunk and a half and if I were going Cougar, Max would be the guy.

But, I still love Richard Gere...sigh...and Redford, even if Robert has lost his golden boys looks.

we have an Aussie version that's a bit lame. I'm a "So You Think You Can Dance" addict!

Every Monday night I record it and then watch DWTS. I have watched it from the very first season when it was not as popular but it has come a long way. I think Edyta is the only dancer who has been on every season.

Max is magnificent and Derek is a cutie. All of the pro dancers are fantastic, but I do have to agree with you that Derek comes up with some of the best choreography of the pros, although Julia was probably his equal when she was on the show. I would say that they hit the genetic DNA for dancers. The moves those two can make are amazing. But then again I think they started out at about age 5 or 6. And on top of dancing they can sing. They are multi-talented. We are so lucky that we get to see them grow, kinda like Donna and Marie. Yea, Donny won last time.

And have you checked out Glee, oh that show is another hidden little pleasure. Love it.

God bless.

Never really watched the show, just caught glimpses flipping through the stations. The costumes did manage to catch my eye though.

I popped over here from Ruth's, having seen your comments to her for many months now. I just had to stop at this post when I was scrolling down. I had no idea Derek is only 21; his talent mature far beyond his years. He is definitely my favorite pro on the show, along with Cheryl, who was the teacher's aide in my daughter's ballet class about ten years ago. I loved seeing this brilliant routine again - thanks!
