Mattel Goes Mad...Men that is

Mattel goes Mad Men with Barbie replicas of  Don & Betty Draper, Roger Sterling and his one time mistress, office manager, Joan Holloway.  Ad Broad has a post on her site as well as an interview on the amctv site.  MadMen is tweeting about it and the NY Times has a 3/9/10 article too. Heady stuff!

I have kept my Barbies lovingly put away for many years.  I have an original Barbie, an original Ken and an original Ginger, she of the platinum blonde bubble hair coif.

My husband photographed one of my Barbies with accessories for her 50th birthday.  I've written about them.  I've written about Mad Men.  Love the dolls.  Love the show.  Would like to buy them all.  Look at those darling dresses!

Aren't you sorry sometimes that we are not kids any more an it's not apropriate any more to play with those cute dolls? At the age of four I already wished I could stay a kid, seeing little advantage in being grown up. I hve a different perspctive now, bu still get nostalgic that way.

Oh, I've got to go look at your pictures of your Barbie. I never had one growing up. I absolutely LOVE the show and wish it would hurry up and start again!

My mother wouldn't let me have a Barbie - she was horrified by her hard look and reputation for vapidness! I had a sort of Midge doll by way of compensation, and went down the street as often as I could to a friend who had a whole collection of Barbies.
I loved the shoes best of all.

You're so good keeping your barbies. Ours went long ago after my niece chewed their feet! I never had a Barbie, scarred me for life, they were too expensive when I was a kid so I had a Krissy doll instead with hair that grew .. just wasn't the same!

Do they include appropriate cigarettes?

Bill: No, they don't. In fact, Mattel made a point of saying no martini glasses, booze or cigs would be iincluded or for sale as accessories. gotta love it.

Ah, sterilized 1950-60s! Where's the "fun" if the room isn't filled with a blue haze?

I had a huge Barbie collection and still have an original Barbie and Ken. These dolls are great and I love the show, too!

Those dolls are too cute. I STILL need to get the dvd of Mad Men so I can catch up to the story!

CG, it cracks me up that you still have your Barbies and I am heading straight to the 50th BD to see them after I finish jabbering here. Dolls gave me a headache when I was a child. LOL! I wanted trucks and horses!

BTW, the being thankful trick is really tough lately... ;)

Tanna/Noni, I'm glad I crack you up...that's always my underlying goal. he he. Surprised to hear you were a tomboy when you seem such a girly girl now. My first recollection of your blog was about interior design in your home (do I remember correctly) and wonderful shots of flowers and vintage homes in your beautiful neighborhood. That's not tomboy talk.

As for "being thankful", I try to remember each day and forget often. But, when I am really frustrated or pissed off, like last night when 2 of my guests who were to be on our Live show this AM cancelled last minute w/ no replacement and my girlfriend who'd blown me off 2x earlier in the week called to cancel AGAIN to have drinks when I most wanted one...well, I went home and made a lovely dinner and was grateful for that. Oh, and I did have two glasses of wine which helped a lot. LOL.

LOL! Yes. There are some things that just stain an attitude of gratitude! LOL! I like the way you recovered yours though. ;)

Yeah... there is tomboy and latent radical feminist lurking in the mellowed layers. I still pack heat (compact 9mm M&P Smith and Wesson). I know that totally freaks you out. LOL! They aren't kidding when they use the term Steel Magnolia. LOL! But, on first assessment, you'd never know. ;)

Tanna: do you really carry a gun? I am deathly afraid of them. I have a phobia about loud noise, always have. Don't know if there's a name for that or not. You're in Tx and I know you guys like to be independent. I live in "Live Free or Die" NH and they are much the same way but I'm a southern Cal through and through and believe in gun control.

Tanna said...

CG: Yes, I do carry. Almost everyone I know does. I love a country where we can be so adamantly opposed to each other's politics and still be friends.

BTW, I am reading a book that says:"... psychiatrists state that we're born with only two innate fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises." I hate the loud noise of gunfire myself. Wear ear plugs AND earphones. Shoot the minimum to stay proficient, but I'm keeping my gun. When you can legislate the bad guys, I'll be more open to your argument. And, hey, this is Texas ya know! LOL! So, we'll just have to agree to disagree. =)

PS it should have been "strain" in my prior comment, not "stain," though I guess that could have worked, too. Man they need spell check on these things! hugs~tanna
