Chinese New Year

Oh boy, more good news!  Today begins The Year of the Rabbit and I was born in the Year of the Rabbit but never knew what that meant aside what I'd read on Chinese menus.  kimy at mouse medicine posted about it today and I'm excited because it sounds like, in addition to all the dates with "ones" in them which directly affect my husband and me, I may now look forward to a year of catching my breath and calming my nerves.  Furthermore,
Not many people know that the Rabbit is the symbol of the Moon, while the Peacock is the symbol of the Sun, and that together, these two animal signs signify the start of day and night, represent the Yin and Yang of life. It is said that anyone making supplications for wishes to be fulfilled are certain to get what they want... and in the Year of the Rabbit, the wish-granting aspect of the Sun and the Moon combined is multiplied. The Moon is YIN and this is the Yin of Heaven, signifying magic. Thus on each of the Full Moon nights of this year, go out into your garden to gaze into the Full Moon and visualize plenty of Moon dust and Moon glow flowing into you, filling your whole body with bright white light and granting you fearlessness, love and courage. This will not only strengthen your inner "Chi" energy, it will also bring wisdom into your life.  source
Hey!  I can dig that.  And, to top it off, I'm married to a Tiger.  roar.  And he is too.

Ah well here's hoping. I know exactly what I'm wishing for. Happy hopping or is that happy hoping?

I'm picturing you out there soaking up the moonlight, with moondust in your hair. Can't be a bad thing to do!
I went to the link about the numbers and saw Cole's photo of the winter tree!! That literally took my breath away. Not even kidding.
He has a website, doesn't he?? I shouldn't be so lazy, and should go and check. I'm sure I went to it sometime last year. The more I see of his work, the more I am convinced he is going to make it big.

I am a rat, hmmm. Is that good? And my sweet wise husband a monkey. Hmmm again. And do we fit together. I say yes. What do the Chinese say?

Brian, glad I can make you laugh :)

DJan, well, I'll take encouraging news wherever I can find it!

Baino, you need to share. What are you hoping for?

Deborah, what a beautiful thing to say. I've told him to view the post & read your comment. His web site: www.colescottphoto.com

Angela, click the "source" link, then click the "Chinese zodiac" link and look for info on the rat and monkey and you'll know. btw, it tells me the rabbit & tiger do not get along well at all. NOW we know why we've bickered all these years!

Tanna, he reads my blog. he he.

More Than You Want To Know, I'm Sure

There is a folk story that describes how the animals were assigned to the cycle of years. A long long time ago, the Lord Buddha summoned all the animals together to assign each of them a year. When the cat heard the news, he let his friend the rat know about it and the two animals decided to go together the next day. However, the next day the rat did not wake the cat who, being a cat and loving to nap, slept through the morning. Therefore, the cat did not make it to the assembly on time and did not get a year. This is why there is no year of the cat and this is why cats hate rats.

The rat, on the other hand, made it first there and received the first year. He did not achieve this without trickery either. He knew that a small animal like him would not be able to compete with the others, so he begged the ox to let him ride on its head. The ox consented and they went together. Just when they were about to arrive, the rat jumped off the ox's head and got through the finish line first. This is why the year of the rat is the first year in the cycle and the year of the ox is the second.

Cole, that is an awesome tale. Did you make it up or are you reading "Siddartha" again?

Abe: Dogs are the loving, loyal ones with the best personalities.

Both my hubby and I are horses. In the old days, it was supposed to be very bad for a woman to be a horse. Their fierce independence deems them to be unsuitable for marriage. I of course consider my independence to be a virtue rather than a vice.

I'm looking forward to the next full moon!

I'm a dog and so is my wife, who is also part Chinese. Not sure if that buys me any extra luck though.
