How we feel when it's green!

A Few Green Quotes (in orange):

Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans. - Jacques Yves Cousteau

I think the environment should be put in the category of our national security.  Defense of our resources is just as important as defense abroad.  Otherwise what is there to defend?  ~Robert Redford, Yosemite National Park dedication, 1985

When a man throws an empty cigarette package from an automobile, he is liable to a fine of $50.  When a man throws a billboard across a view, he is richly rewarded.  ~Pat Brown, quoted in David Ogilvy, Ogilvy on Advertising, 1985

The earth we abuse and the living things we kill will, in the end, take their revenge; for in exploiting their presence we are diminishing our future.  ~Marya Mannes, More in Anger, 1958

Oh Beautiful for smoggy skies, insecticided grain,
For strip-mined mountain's majesty above the asphalt plain.
America, America, man sheds his waste on thee,
And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea.
~George Carlin

It is horrifying that we have to fight our own government to save the environment.  ~Ansel Adams

The gross heathenism of civilization has generally destroyed nature, and poetry, and all that is spiritual.  ~John Muir, letter to J.B. McChesney, 19 September 1871

When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world. John Muir

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.  ~Carl Sagan

It is a curious situation that the sea, from which life first arose, should now be threatened by the activities of one form of that life.  ~Rachel Carson

Wise words from Ansel Adams.

Lovely quotes but I'm quite cross that you cheated and put your husband's photos up . .God I envy that man's talent!

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

Indeed it isn't!

Brian: thank you for being first. I don't know how you do it, but you almost always are.

Willow: there are so many interesting words of wisdom out there but Ansel is one of my heroes.

Baino: well, I don't take any myself except every once in a while on my cell phone and I haven't learned to transfer those yet. We both appreciate your kind compliments. He is progressing and beginning to get some freelance work. I ought to write about the photography and how it saved him some day.

Brilliant Photos.Green is the base colour for most living things.Happy T.T.!

California Girl said...

Tony: I did not know green is the base color for most living things although it makes sense.

Thank you for the compliment. Will pass that on to my husband. Most are his. One is from my girlfriend in Moscow (the orange tulips) and I should have identified them but barely made TT at all.

Dear California,

Without a word of a lie, I stopped breathing when I got the picture of the jug in front of the green tiled wall.

These are stunningly beautiful pictures and yes, I would definitely like to hear the story about how photography saved your husband.

Some of the quotes are remarkable in their prescience. A lovely, if troubling post.

Beautiful photos! I really like the forest and the butterfly is amazing.
Have you seen the movie "Avatar"? It has a strong environmental theme.
Very thought provoking quotes. It seems the green of the earth is in an unfair competition with the gree of the money.

Deborah: you always write the nicest comments. You read other comments as well! I'm going to send him the comments and I probably will write about it. He doesn't like me writing about personal things in his life but we are here to instruct and help, are we not?

LadyCat: Thank you on behalf of my photographer hubby. I haven't seen "Avatar", one reason being we live in a tiny resort town w/ no decent movie theaters and everyone says to see it in a big theater, preferably w/ 3D.

You took a unique route with your green theme. Using the varying shades was a nice touch that I would not have considered. They're all very pretty.

Heere's another one for you:
"Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans." - Jacques Yves Cousteau

Bill: I'm applying your quote to the post. Jacques Cousteau...what a guy! Thanks.

Matty: Thank you! That is so nice of you to say. I really was strapped for time and did not want to duplicate what I did with TT Red which required a TON of research.

My favorite color brought to life! The pictures are gorgeous, as always. The quotes are fantastic and reflect the concern of many outraged and worried citizens of this beautiful nation. Why can't the rest see what we're doing to our world?

We've been watching the National Parks series and thank God there were heroes who had the foresight to try and protect our unique and awesome heritage as much as they could. We owe a huge debt to them and to the ones who continue the work.

I was getting reading to write a new blog post and typed in "women of a certain age" and got your other blog on google, followed it here. We have several blogging friends in common, so I thought I'd join your coffee klatch. I like it over here! :-)

Stunning landscapes -your husband's work?

California Girl said...

DT: Thank you. They are my husband's.

Subby: ditto. I thought Carlin was a nice touch.

Susan: I actually was thinking of the quotes Ken Burns used in that series when I was looking for people to quote: Muir, Carson, Adams.

Djan: Thank you for visiting my blog and please come back often.

Art Spark: All are by him w/ one exception, the green w/ orange tulips snapped in Moscow by my friend who lives there now.
