Vegetables

Gourds...damn that cat! by ski 9

For my first attempt at Theme Thursday, I post a photograph of gourds and the comment that I still don't know what I'm doing. I suppose for St. Patty's Day I could have done a treatise on the cabbage portion of corned beef &... however, I never make it so I would have to cheat.

Instead, I'll comment on children eating vegetables and what means I used as a parent to accomplish that feat. Cheese sauce. Cheese sauce was the magic elixir for broccoli, brussel sprouts and cauliflower. When the boys were little, they loved cheese sauce and would eat anything with it. I always make it fresh: butter & flour to form the paste, milk to make the roux. I add American cheese after the sauce is thick; the more the better. Cheese sauce works with my husband who is not a fan of strong flavored vegetables.

Green salads, peas, mashed or roasted squash, baked, mashed and roasted potatoes, corn on the cob, steamed artichoke, grilled eggplant, grilled zucchini, onions, mushrooms, mashed turnips, roasted veggie soup; they eat it now with just a bit of butter or olive oil & shredded parmigian reggiano. In fact, I have raised remarkably well-rounded eaters who actually like their vegetables! I consider this an accomplishment.

Nice picture of the gourds.

Don't like cheese sauce on vegetables and never served it that way to my children.

You have a great list of vegetables that your family now eat.

Yep, cheese sauce has gotten many children to eat veggies. Disguise, it is everything. Welcome to TT, great gourd pic and post.

Oh, yum, to all of what you describe.

And I second Ronda--cheese sauce is the great equalizer...well, for some, anyway...

sometimes, only ketchup will do, though!

Indeed the cheese sauce does the trick...my picky eater found even an easier way with a dollop of cheese whiz although I don't think it was as healthy as the homemade cheese sauce.

Thanks for the memories!

I used to do the cheese sauce thing when my daughters were little, then I do not know why but I sometime just stopped. The grandkids eat most of the veggies and they are into ranch dressing if they are raw. But cooked ones they just eat as is. They do not even put butter. I somehow am craving a salad for some reason after today.

Am glad my internet came back on so I can visit all the TT's. Welcome to TT. It is fun and you did great. I love it.

I was reading your other posts and about how friends never pay attention to your posts. This seems to be very common with all of us. I do not know if we are frustrated writers, I have never really tried to write much, but maybe we are.

But I think it is more about communicating with others. Kinda like talking on the phone, but no phone. And it is about learning. I am trying to keep my brain active and reactive. The TV does not do this, while blogging and communicating with others here does that.

So I learn about how others in the world think about things in their daily lives. It is important for us each to learn about each other and how we live in the different countries, even our own country.

I call this my 'Blogging Journey'. I have heard others call it this too. It is one of amazement, wonder and awe. I hope you enjoy it as much as we all seem to.

God bless.

PS...I have also learned that to be visited, you must visit and leave comments to let them know you have stopped by. They will stop by to see how you are doing too.

Thank you all for your comments and encouragement on my first TT. I really didn't get it at first. I mean, what does it say when you think your participation is only about leaving a Comment under the new TT post? hahahaha!

I enjoy the journey and the challenge of staying fresh. I am pretty darned amazed at the interesting folk I'm meeting by writing my blogs. You guys have such wonderful ideas and express them in such unique ways. I love that everyone is everywhere.

Someone should organize a Blog Convention.
