I'm Having An Affair ...

...with my Kindle Fire and it's taking me away from all my normal activities.  Those of you following my blogs, Empty Nest Evolution and Women of a Certain Age, may or may not have noticed my approximately month-long absence from blogging.  It wasn't by design.  I simply can't stop reading, playing & referring to the Kindle Fire.

Every night, before I go to sleep, I watch an episode of "Mad Men".  I'm getting ready for the new season, beginning in March, by reviewing the past 3 seasons.  It's addictive.

I play Words with Friends, a game I'd never heard of til Alec Baldwin was kicked off a plane for refusing to turn off his electronic device at takeoff because he was in the middle of playing.  Huh?  It's like Scrabble only you're playing someone you don't know.  I don't cheat yet, that is, refer to the dictionary for word ideas but I'm sure some of my opponents have.  I mean, have you ever heard of the word "coir"?  Me neither but it's a real word.  Words with Friends is addictive.

I've downloaded and read several books.  I didn't think I'd like reading on a Kindle but I like it.  It's not addictive but it is easy.

I read the news headlines on Pulse, get instant weather on the Weather Channel app, I upload photographs which look more phenomenal on the Kindle than in my camera or on this computer.  Everything looks better on the Kindle Fire.

I'm trying to cut back.  I've had the flu these past 4 days, spending most of it in bed on the computer, trying to catch up with everyone's blogs.

No, Amazon is not paying me to say this.

My sister has a Kindle Fire and she's not quite as addicted as you are, but close! She also has an iPhone and cannot be separated from it for even a few minutes! :-)

Luckily, I do not have an iPhone or even a smart phone.  I have a 3 yr old LG multi media phone which preceded the smart phones & does much they can do w/o the monthly charge of $30 which I refuse to spend.  Actually, if I need to link to the internet, it's $1.99 for a day and non-mandatory (because they've done away with my type of phone)

Thank God I have to keep plugging it in or I'd be on it ALL THE TIME.

The only thing I don't care for is the typing mechanism.  It's all touch and it self-corrects and you really have to pay attention or it sends out messages that are meaningless or you never intended and you look like an idiot.

My husband just bought us one for Valentine's Day!   Please do another post on free apps etc that you can do on the Kindle Fire.  I haven't had a chance to play with mine yet. He bought it and then took it out of town so I need all the help I can get.

hahahaha!  I thought that title would get some attention.

How are you Marguerite?  You sound happy and fulfilled as always.  Your recipes are decadent.  urp!

It's just insanity.  I now, finally, understand my children's fascination with their Game Boys all those years ago.

Look in the upper right corner on the home page (looks like a book shelf) and you'll see tab titles, one of which is "Apps".  Go there and they'll cue you to find apps and the prices will show and many are free.  I've downloaded a number of free ones as I'm not anxious to spend money on apps.  However, there are LOTS of choices.  You'll have so much fun.  Photographs are so beautiful on the screen...much better resolution than on my computer.

I have the "really old" original Kindle and have been trying my hardest to resist the urge to buy the Fire. I think I'm finally going to fold and get one. They're too cool.

Hey, I didn't know blogspot had DISQUS comments now!

I have the old Kindle. My 70-year-old brother just fell on ice and broke his hip. But he is a real hip 70-year-old (sorry), and we chipped in and got him an iPad, though we looked long and hard at the Kindle Fire, which is so cool. Congrats. And yeah, my husband plays Words with Friends ALL THE TIME.

I know!  I love Disqus.  It saves time and there's no word verification which is becoming more complicated and irritating and hard to read.  I end up doing those things more than once too often.

The iPad is beautiful but I would have flipped my gourd if they'd spent $700-900 on it incl the bells & whistles.  It would be wonderful to shoot with it.  I wish the Kindle Fire had a camera.  That would make it almost perfect.

Well, you're going to be famous soon so you might as well treat yourself!

I'm having the same problem: Kindle Fire = IN/Blogging = OUT. I lied to my blogging buddies and said it was wallpaper removal, but now the real truth is out.

You're making me feel better.  I have questioned my lack of self-discipline of late.  My husband thinks it's "cute" and says I've "always liked gadgets".  Yeah.  The kitchen kind.
