Tuesday morning @ 10:00AM, I'll be under the knife having a long over-due total knee replacement. I have put this off long enough (7 years) and am succumbing to advice from physical therapists, trainers and my friends.
I'll be out of commission for several weeks until the drugs wear off. No driving for 6 weeks and no idea when I'll return to work as I have to be able to navigate stairs with my crutches. We have serious stairs in both our home and where I work.
See you guys on the flip side. Wish me luck

Luck! Lots of it... and I look forward to your return and stories of your adventure ahead. I'll be thinking of you...
Best of luck through it all. I'll be praying for you.
best wishes on the surgery...prayers for a speedy recovery
Sending you wishes for good luck with the surgery and then for a speedy recovery! You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
no kidding!...good luck and good meds to you....relax...it will be over soon! take care!!!!!
This won't get to you beforehand, but maybe the positive vibe will filter through. Wishing you an excellent result and a speedy recovery - and an enhanced life because of it!!
I hope it all went well and that you're feeling good now. I have a friend who had the surgery and is cavorting around Guatemala as we speak (or type).
She's also done lots and lots of traveling- and walking- all over the world since her surgery. I hope it will be the same for you.
Barbara
so how are you doing over there?
sending healing energy your way. light and love to you!
Thank you kim! Everything went well and I'm breaking records with my recovery. In fact, they want me to cool it lest I re-injure. yay for me!
Splendid recovery. The operation was apparently successful. I did not have a general but rather spinal and nerve blocks. They are easier to come out of. Pain was out of control though. The post op nurses screwed up and did not let me know I had the morphine drip at my bedside for 5 hours. ugh
I wouldn't say I'm "cavorting" but my movement is excellent. 8 days after surgery I am almost done with the walker and my exercises have given me about a 90% range of motion.
Your vibe came through. Everything is looking and feeling good; even my 8" stapled scar. It looks like a zipper.
I remember thinking the night before, "How glad I'll be a week from now." And here I am! So much better already.
Marguerite, thank you for your good thoughts & prayers. Send me a casserole of Cajun!
Thanks Bri. I think God was listening awfully hard and heard all the prayers and nice things people were thinking. He's been very good to me.
Foxy, thank you! I notice you've posted today. I'll read it after i get some shut eye.
I probably have stories but the meds make me forget them.
Glad to read that you are well on the road to recovery.
It's no small matter to re-hab. Takes stamina, courage, and grit.
I have seen several people go through this surgery...some come through it with Flying Colors...others seem to just give up.
Yay for YOU being one to come through with the Flying Colors
I have a very healthy respect ( and a fairly well pronounced FEAR going on) regarding joint surgeries.
My Father had both knees replaced at the same time...two weeks after having had Rotator Cuff Surgery. I still don't know how he managed to cope with all that
Blessings to you.
In Him,
Grace
Grace, I bow to your father. I am prostrate with awe about your father. I have been told the two knees at the same time surgery is becoming more prevalent. CANNOT imagine it. This is painful. It's more painful than my hip replacements. At least, I've had a more difficult time controlling the pain and I am not a stoic.
My husband had rotator cuff surgery and he was in pain for weeks. I thought it a bit much but he really hurt. Your dad? Wow. He must be amazing.
Thanks for reading, commenting and sharing. Good to defuse the mystery about the joint replacements.

All I can say is don't get dispondant when you take your first steps. My dad had this done years ago and the first couple of days were very frustrating for him. By the time I picked him up from the hospital he walked out with nothing more than a walking stick. The trick is to keep up the rehab and do your physio...2 years ago, I would have thought this would be me but losing weight and exercising has put it off for a while. You don't need luck, you'll be good as new. MWAH
Actually, I'm doing extremely well. If it weren't for the logy effect of the morphine based drug, I'd be in good shape.
I began walking with a cane about 3-4 days after I came home. I alternated between it and the walker but my physical conditioning pre-op was so good, I had a great deal of flexibility and movement and strength. That was my goal and it made a huge difference. The meds keep me out of it and they're switching me to something less depressing today. It's now 2 1/2 weeks. I am bored out of my mind but reading ALOT. I will probably try to get back to blogging although I just haven't wanted to bore anyone with the details.
Thanks for the encouragement as always. Hope you are doing well. xo
I obviously read these out of order!
I have a trashed knee right now. Ruptured ACL and several bone spurs. I've been putting surgery off on it for years! I'm not afraid of the surgery, it's the post op those sucks the most (as you say in your next post). Take it easy!
Pat, seriously, get it fixed. I can't comment on an ACL repair. It's a different beast. Bone spurs are painful so it cannot be pleasant. Today marks 3 weeks since the surgery. The drugs confuse time for me, elongating it, but I am amazed at my progress in such a short time.
