Resolutions: 14 Years to Fruition

When my husband and I left the West Coast for the East Coast, we promised ourselves we'd see the sites, visit the cities we'd never or rarely visited and take advantage of the close proximity of everything "eastern",  so opposite the wide open spaces of what we considered "western".

Fourteen years, two sons, three dogs, one cat, one MIL, 3 homes and several jobs later, we are finally fulfilling our resolutions.

For the first time in my career, I have 4 weeks vacation.  My husband is pursuing his passion, fine art photography and no longer has the 2 1/2 hour commute to work along with the 4 nights sleeping elsewhere, that accompanied his last high-stress job.  Our sons are independent (even if they have moved home for the time being) and they take care of the 2 remaining dogs when we're away.  The MIL is still independent so we're not yet at the point of assistance to her needs (fingers crossed).

Our last trip of 2011 was a quick overnight to Boston.  We thought it would be fun to celebrate the night before New Years Eve.  And it was!

lucky you, sounds terrific, it was so mild this year we should have gone to the city for New Years with the kids, instead had a party with friends

well thank you Brian but I took those.  hahahaha!  I identified myself at the bottom of the post but...I just told my husband how good I am now.  He was appreciative.

Welcome and thank you for visiting and commenting.  It is mild isn't it?  I live in a ski town and everybody is cryin' the blues.

Ooh fabulous, I get to travel vicariously yet again. Did you eat Boston Beans?

Enjoy all of your heart's desires of adventure... and we will vicarously!  ;)   Boston still remains one of my favorite adventures (many years ago... it was nice to travel back with you this time, too).  blessings ~ tanna

You're at such a fun stage in life...and still young enough to enjoy it!  So nice!

Great pictures! And I agree that now you should be able to do all the things you have always wanted to do. I know I'm certainly enjoying my retirement from all the things I did when I was younger. Nice to sit back and read a book for as long as I want. :-)

Great shots and looks like a fun time in Boston. Glad that things are going so well. Happy New Year!

We left the West, went East and after 14 years returned to the West.  Amazing the changes in those years ... all due to exponential population growth.  Now, I'm looking for a time machine.

When my FB and I were finally free to travel, we made a similar resolution, but it's taken us only five years to get around to fulfilling it.  Now we've embarked on home exchanges and just had our first one with Brussels. I'd like to take advantage to our proximity to so many other European countries until, well, until we can't anymore! Lots people want to come to our part of the world, so our choices are pretty much only limited by our budget.  But I also want to see more of this part of France, and that's slower to happen.  I'm so glad you're getting out and about and l ook forward to hearing more - Boston is on my to-see list.

If you came to Boston and wanted to meet, I'd drive down for a nice lunch. I love Boston and you and I would probably get a long beautifully.

Good to hear from you.  I want to see France too.  Your place sounds great.  We could swap if you want to see New Hampshire sometime.  You can visit Boston & New York too.  They're all w/in driving distance.  We rarely fly anywhere.

Where in the West if you don't mind my asking?  I'm born & raised in LA but spent the college years, single years & young family years in my favorite place:  San Diego.  Yup, lived there 3x and might again some day.

You too.  I just read a post last night by someone (forget who) whose family of 100+ took over the Hotel Monteleone for New Years'.  Her photos were awesome and I was jealous because it looked more authentic than the Windsor Court which I loved.  But this looked better!

Not there yet as I still work full-time.  I don't mind that because I love the job, have lots of time off and love the product.   I do get tired some days.

We are grateful, that is for sure.

I know what you mean.  I feel that way when I read blogs with photos from other places...like Australia!

No.  Did not eat beans at all.  Ate in an Irish pub & drank Guinness.  Ate in the North End, Little Italy:  Italian.  Ate an awesome brunch next day.  Great restaurants in Boston.

If my husband will send some of his shots to me, I'll post those.  These are mine and only the good ones.

I'd love to meet up with you! Our exchanges are planned out for 2012, but next year might be a possibility.  Boston AND New York - the mind boggles.  That's almost like being able to see Belgium, Holland and Germany in the same afternoon.

You'll want to give me a heads up in advance...say a month or so.  I can plan a trip down for the day.  It's a 2 1/2 hr drive sans traffic from where I live.
