Theme Thursday Bottle

Some time last year, my husband and I rented "Bottle Shock", a movie we'd never heard of. It has some very fine actors, Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, Dennis Farina. It's about a subject I love: wine...and not just any wine, California wine. It's the true story of how California wine was introduced as a serious contender to French wine in a 1976 blind taste test held in Paris. The results of this event were, heretofore unthinkable and forever changed the fortunes of California vintners. Worth the watch. Here's the trailer.

I hired it to a little while back! Love Alan Rickman and it's a really entertaining little movie! Although we're in competition with you Californians .. 2004 Witchmount Shiraz was named the top shiraz in the world in the Syrah du Monde wine competition.

Got into Calif wines when I lived on the west coast... and so many wineries to visit. I'm looking forward to seeing this, too. -J

Watching and listening to Alan Rickman is one of my favorite pastimes but pls don't tell Devoted Spouse since he thinks HE's my favorite pastime. (Ok he is) I have not seen this flick, but will. I am currently in love with pinot noir and would love to get another pet just so I could name it pinot noir. sigh...

i just signed up with netflix, thanks for the reminder about this film - will put it in the queue, been wanting to see it for a while. my sister while she liked it she said the book the film is based on is not to be missed.

I'm a member of the I love alan rickman club too - and it do looks like he once more plays a delightfully unpleasant snob - don't you just love to love these unlikable characters!

This looks like a good movie to watch and will have to check it out.

Believe it or not the house that I live in, used to be part of a vineyard and my house was built where the vines used to be. When we first moved out here, there were vineyards everywhere. But then the land became more valuable then making wine, and so it was almost all sold. Supposedly the wine made out here was really good. It was a lot nicer here when 2/3's of the people did not live here. No traffic, little crime, people spoke english, oh the good old days. I need a glass of wine. Oh and the funny thing is that hubby is always buying wine from Austrailia. California wine costs too much. Must be all those freaking taxes we pay.

God bless.

Hi! California Girl,
I most definitely, will seek this film out to watch...I also like the youtube wide screen.(That you have embedded on your blog.)

Because it pulls you into what is happening in the film. We both are dealing with films, this week, but you decided to take a light, pleasant, humourous approach.
Thanks, for sharing...Happy Theme Thursday!

I heard about this movie a while ago. I'll have to see if the DVD is in the RI public library system.

There are some California wines that I like, but I've been finding that my heart is taken by Australian reds (especially Shirazes) and New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs. And I'd be willing to bet the vintners from Downunder had just as much of an uphill battle to gain recognition as the Californians did.

That was a fun movie - and it was a time-capsule of the fashions and cars of the era too.

Loved his rental car... ;-)

California Girl, I used to know about this blog, but somehow it has escaped my attention for months. Right brained? left brained? No brained! (Me, not you)

I heard about this film several years ago but forgot the title, and actually forgot the film too. (see what I mean?) So I'm delighted to find it here and even more delighted that one of my favourite actors, Alan Rickman, is in it. I'll be renting it, thanks!!

Thank you for calling my attention to this movie! Had not heard of it, but it's now definitely on my to-see list.

Glad to meet you California Girl. I used to be one myself for a few years (San Diego), and the place just stays in your soul. I've actually seen and traveled through more of the state since I've been a NV resident. Fall in love with CA every visit.
