Theme Thursday Suitcase

Vintage Suitcase from dreamstime.com

Packing is an art. It requires foresight and hard decisions. What suitcase(s) do I take? Does my airline charge for more than one bag? What are the dimensions of the carry on for the airline I'm flying? As I discovered too late on this last trip, Jet Blue apparently has a more generous carry on size than United.

The only anxiety-provoking aspect of my recent vacation was packing. I did not want to take a large suitcase because my back is no longer very strong and I dreaded dragging one around. Also, how many clothes was I going to need on a beach vacation to Florida anyway? As it turns out, way less than I took and I thought I took very few! What amounted to five pair of shoes, two pair of shorts, two tees, two skirts, three cute tops and three bathings suits (plus underwear, makeup, curling iron, toiletries) SHOULD have been four tees, three pair of shorts, no skirts, two bathing suits and three pair of various colored flip flops. I coulda taken a duffel bag!

I forgot a hair dryer and decided to go without after we arrived. Guess what? Thanks to the salty air and relative humidity, my hair was wavy and piece-y and tousled and I loved it. I didn't need much makeup because a good tan conceals alot of blemishes. Yes, I know all about the sun, skin cancer, etc. But I figure once a year I'm going to get a tan. So, I could have taken half the make up I packed. Still my suitcase was reliable and easy to pick out on the baggage conveyer. It's a Kenneth Cole Reaction piece, part of a set I bought four years ago when my husband took me on a cruise for our 30th. I love it!

Yes, it takes years and a lot of travel to be comfortable with taking only the minimum. I can get into a carry on still but I don't like to pay $12 for a small bottle of sunscreen at my destination, so now I check.

I pack the Navy way! And never worried to much if I forgot any-thing, as I could just pick it up at my destination. That's part of the adventure( At least with me, anyway ). Glad you were able to get away from it all, if even for a few days. Cheers :)

Yeh, I pack light too. Lets face it, if you're travelling there's no shame in wearing the same thing all the time . .who'll remember! "Flip Flops" hehe . . we call em thongs!

I always take way too much! It sounds like you now are ready for vaca #2. You know exactly what's needed.

Packing--OH how I loathe and fear it.

I'm glad your hair worked out! What a victory!

The cardinal rule of traveling is to carry half as much clothing as you think you'll need, and twice as much money. I know that, I've known that for many years, yet I still end up with far too much clothing on a trip. As for the money, well, I could always use more of that.

I always pack way too much stuff. I figure if I ever get to go to Europe, I'm going to invest in some travel-friendly clothes from Travelsmith. Y'know, one of those mix and match wardrobes where you basically wear the same thing every day.

Hey, we did an Alaskan cruise for our 30th! It must be the thing to do for that particular anniversary.

I finally got Empty Nest to link on my blogroll! Yay!

I have what George Carlin called that "phosphorescent blue Irish skin," so even when I do bother getting sun, it's usually burn'n'peel, burn'n'peel, etc. I think I've had two actual tans in my life!

isn't it good that you wrote a post about it? You already have a list now for your next vacation... A very clever thing to do now that everything is still so fresh!

Hello you.
I used to LOVE packing, but not anymore. Too many restrictions.
Love that vintage suitcase!!!
Do you really bring on the airplane?
I would hate to see it get damaged or scruffed.
Happy TT!

The vintage suitcase looks more like an art piece. I never bring a blow dryer because my hair is so curly and as soon as any moisture touches it it just curls back up. I always over pack and it must be something some of us do. Then I end up wondering why I brought half of what I packed.

Glad you had a nice vacation and tan. I stopped tanning when I was 19. Somewhere I read it causes wrinkles and so I stopped. I did not know you could use an iron to get the wrinkles out.

God bless.
