Spam A Lot

Yes, I'm getting it.  Alot.

After almost three years of blogging, I'm suddenly receiving spam, some of it creepy with weird, non- sensical sentences; some of it in a foreign language with suspicious links and some of it friendly comments ending with links to sex sites and escort services.

We've all received the odd looking comments in an Arabic appearing alphabet.  It may very well be Arabic but I don't know how to translate that!

Now I'm receiving daily crap which I have to moderate.  I'm wondering if this is because I removed the word verification?

Advice anyone?

My problems with spam stopped when Blogger introduced the new spam filter some months ago. But I've never tried to skip word verification, and I also still don't allow anonymous comments. I guess you'll easily find out by going back to WV if that makes a difference?

I stopped the word verification and so far so good. But I am willing to go back any time I start to get spam. Sorry to hear you are getting so much.

I get a couple everyday, but I'd rather have to moderate them out than to make my followers spend their time doing word verification. Some of it is pretty odd...

I've never had word verif., and just get problems now and then (and I never quite know why) - not too much of a bother to just delete them.

Isn't it yucky though? WV has worked for me so far.

Seems to come in waves. I get some chinese rubbish linking to old posts occasionally. I think word verification helps.

Word Verification helps a lot. Moderation covers it all.
A happy medium is Word Verication.

Hi! C.G.,
I thought Google offered a spam catcher (filter) to their customer...something similar to Wordpress spam catcher in order to catch spam?!?

Oh! well, I think that you have to try word verification in conjunction with moderation.

I must admit that I receive a lot of email spam.
Thanks, for sharing!
