Words of Wisdom from Mark Twain

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore. Dream. Discover.

~Mark Twain

Photo of Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, ME. where we spent five wonderful days over the Memorial holiday.

The cove is a tiny peninsula dotted with this harbor of fishing and excursion boats, restaurants, shoppes, and delightful places to walk and sit. We had a fantastic lobster dinner here one night and a couple of great lunches and morning coffee after a long walk along Marginal Way, a glimpse of which may be seen below.

Ogunquit reminded me of Nantucket without the rigid architectural requirements. In Nantucket, all homes have to be natural wood shingles and conform to the way they were built and/or looked originally. There's a sameness to it that I don't care for. Ogunquit obviously has planning and building codes to conform to the quaintness of the town but there is more diversity.

That harbor in Ogunquit is a place I'd like to sit and sip. Soul filling. Were there bugs?

Mark Twain is a wise man - great words of wisdom. My best friend in high school was from Maine and she always talked so fondly about it. I must visit there one day.

ooooohhh... the beach is so serene... and I do appreciate some diversity! LOL. So glad you had an enjoyable get-away. I'm pretty sure Twain is dead on with that statement. ;)

Good photo of the boats, the red one gives a nice splash of colour with all the white ones in the background.

Ruth: No bugs!!! It was so great, worth getting away just to escape the damn black flies and mosquitoes. We kept commenting on it.

Dutchbaby: You will love it. I am continually amazed and enchanted by the coastal towns. Portland is a very nice small city too.

Brian: I originally used the quote as an incentive for my sons. I send them quotes sometimes. It's an appropriate life philosophy.

Jingle: Thank you!

Tanna: It was just what we needed.

Nancy: You sound like your hands are full right now. Maybe after the move? If you did, you'd have to let me know. We should meet :)

Dawn: I think so too! He cropped it at my suggestion.

gayle: I love it when I've done something another blogger has done and v.v.

Reminds me of a photo that someone sent from Peggy's Cove in Halifax I think it is. Beautiful and quite different to our 'seaside' areas. I'd love to see more photos! As for Twain's quote, oh my aint that the truth. Give me back 20 years and I'd do everything differently

I use that quote on the top of my blog and love it. We've spent a couple of vacations at Perkins Cove- sigh, what's not to love! Great photo!

Robin: anything to make your day start the way you want!

Marguerite: it is a quaint little town. we fell in love with Ogunquit.

Baino: I'd love to see more photos too. He doesn't share them with me now unless he's "worked" them for printing. It makes me nuts because I want a record of the trips we take and he wants perfection. sigh.

Grandmother: It is a great quote and oft repeated because he's telling us to live the dream...which you are.

Great quote from Mark Twain and FANTASTIC photo of the cove. That must be a very soothing place to visit. Maine is one of the states I've never been to.
